Claude
Claude.ai and Claude Desktop
- Open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Enter the URL
https://api.pelyr.com/mcpand confirm. - The connector appears with a Connect button. Click it: a Pelyr page opens
and asks whether
claude.aimay use your account. - Sign in if you are not signed in yet, then choose Allow.
There is no client ID and no client secret to fill in. Claude identifies itself
with a metadata document on its own domain, and Pelyr accepts exactly two of
those — claude.ai and chatgpt.com.
One approval covers Claude on the web, on the desktop and on mobile: they share
the same client identity. Afterwards you have one key named claude.ai in your
key list.
To disconnect, revoke that key in the portal, or remove the connector in Claude. Revoking the key is the stronger of the two — it cuts every Claude surface at once, and it works even if you no longer have access to the Claude account.
Claude Code
Claude Code takes the server with a header instead of the browser flow:
claude mcp add --transport http pelyr https://api.pelyr.com/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer pk_your_key_here"
This stores the key in plain text: Claude Code writes it to ~/.claude.json,
and the command line lands in your shell history. Never run it with
--scope project — that writes the key into .mcp.json inside your repository.
Create the key in the portal first; it needs the https capability. Check the
result with /mcp inside Claude Code — pelyr has to list ten tools. A key
without https, a revoked key, or a typo all show up the same way: the server
is listed as failing to authenticate.
Asking for something
The tools are named after what they do, so a plain question works:
Which cargo vessels are in the German Bight right now?
Where did MMSI 244660123 go over the last six hours?
Is there a vessel called EXAMPLE TRADER, and where was it last seen?
Claude picks the tool, fills in the bounding box or the time range, and reports back. A name search returns candidates, not a certain match — ask Claude to show MMSI and IMO number when several vessels come back. Ask it to keep the attribution line from the tool result if it drops it — showing the source is a condition of the licence, not a preference.
